As the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus) begins to slowly recover, new challenges are emerging. Increased interactions with humans—especially in tourism hotspots—are putting these rare marine mammals and their habitats at growing risk. Greece, home to a significant portion of the remaining monk seal population, has designated nearly 20% of its territorial waters as protected areas. Yet, many of these sites—particularly those within the Natura 2000 network—still lack the management plans and enforcement mechanisms needed to ensure effective protection.

SEAL GREECE is a national initiative co-developed and led by NECCA, the Greek National Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency and the Monk Seal Alliance, a donor coalition dedicated to protecting this emblematic species. The project was co-designed by these two partners to strengthen the protection of monk seal habitats through a strategic, coordinated effort that complements existing initiatives such as LIFE IP 4Natura and others.

At the @IucnOrg World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation co-organized a session on how bold alliances and innovative funding can drive large-scale conservation in the Mediterranean.

Home to over 500 million people, this biodiversity hotspot is warming twice as fast as the global average — yet remains critically underfunded.
Protecting it means joining forces, bridging sectors, and investing for the long term.

Through the discussions, the Foundation highlighted key initiatives — DIMFE, the Monk Seal Alliance, the Human-Wildlife Initiative, and the MedFund — showing that collective action works.

Les 8 et 15 octobre derniers, se sont tenus les ateliers de lancement des deux Promotions de l’Excellence soutenues par l’AMADE, entre Nice et Monaco.

Développé par Les Entretiens de l’Excellence, ce programme accompagne 12 lycéens talentueux issus de quartiers prioritaires, grâce au mentorat de professionnels engagés, sur trois années d’échanges et d’ateliers dédiés à la découverte de l’entreprise, à l’oralité et à la culture.

📍 Le 8 octobre, les Terminales du Lycée Guillaume Apollinaire ont retrouvé leurs mentors de CFM Indosuez Wealth Management pour lancer leur dernière année. L’atelier a permis de consolider les acquis, de réfléchir à leur projet post-bac et de s’exercer à présenter leurs ambitions à travers un jeu de rôle.

📍 Le 15 octobre, ce fut au tour des Premières du Lycée Les Palmiers de renouer avec leurs mentors de Monte Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, pour un moment d’échanges, de partage d’expériences et de projection sur leurs objectifs de l’année à venir.

✨ Deux journées riches en rencontres, en apprentissages et en inspiration, au service de l’égalité des chances et de la réussite des jeunes.
